First artificially made spermIt might seem more like science fiction than reality, but english scientists confirmed to the english journal "Time" that they finally created the human sperm.

"In vitro-derived sperm, or IVD sperm are not exactly like naturally occurring sperm. They contain half the number of chromosomes of other human cells,but egg and sperm cells have only 23, since they combine their genetic payloads essential for activating the egg during fertilization, and they swim, or move as sperm do in seeking out eggs to fertilize ", the head of investigations, Doctor Karim Nayernia said.

It takes 15 to 16 years in the tests before this sperm will be able to mature and and successfully fertilize an egg.

Anyways, IVD sperm are not really for transplantation into people, but they may provide valuable clues to the cases of male infertility and Nayernia's group is working on creating sperm from the skin cells of infertile men. For now British law prohibits sperm transplantation into people.
