On vacation in Croatia: Three days on the Brijuni islands for Tadic's wife and children

Tanja Tadic and her daughters were lodged at the Villa Jadranka residence and spent three days of their summer vacation there, and according to the people they came in contact with they were very happy with their hosts and said when departing that they would like to come again next summer.

The visit by the family of the Serbian president was made in complete discretion, and the Brijuni islands are anyways under constant police surveillance. The three state-owned villas that make up the complex, the Brijunka, Jadranka and Bijela vila (White Villa), have been the presidential summer residence since the time of the regime of Josip Broz Tito. Franjo Tudjman also regularly vacationed on the Brijuni islands, as did Stipe Mesic, while Ivo Josipovic has decided to spend his first summer vacation as President of the Republic in Baska Voda, from where his family hails. The former presidents have invited a number of famed figures such as Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Placido Domingo to the Brijuni islands, and in 2007 Mesic played host to former Hague prosecutor Carla Del Ponte there.

The most recent guests to Villa Jadranka were Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic and high-ranking officials from Macedonia, Russia and a number of other countries. It is a venue for informal contacts with influential politicians, who came take the opportunity for a vacation in the discretely protected island archipelago.
